Congratulations! Now that you have made the really tough decision to embark on the wonderful adventure of moving to the “land down under” the exciting work can begin. As mentioned in the previous section the moving process can be challenging and stressful at times, managed correctly and in stages, it doesn’t have to be too stressful and remember to treat it as an adventure – in most cases it is the fulfilment of the dream for a better life.
For starters, the best tip we can pass on is do not delay, with careful planning and a systematic approach the moving process is so much less stressful. A really easy first step and one that can get the momentum going is to start thinking about what you don’t want to take with you and start selling, giving away or donating unwanted items and furniture. Start making packing lists, go from room to room deciding which items you want to take and break items down into “Definitely”, “Not Taking” and “Maybe”, revisit the lists often. Your removals company will be able to assist you with items you are unsure about and advise what cannot be taken too.
An hour of packing and clearing each evening after work, instead of turning on the TV or scrolling through social media(!) will pay dividends later on – we speak from experience with this.
